Stockton, San Joaquin County
University of the Pacific received its charter in 1851, the first granted to a university in California. The school moved to Stockton in 1924, and its brick, ivy-covered campus along the Calaveras River has stood in for East Coast colleges in several films. Pacific also runs campuses in Sacramento and San Francisco.
